Aaron Sanchez – Mi Fiesta Perfecta

I recently shot Aaron Sanchez in the Food Network kitchens for Cosmo for Latinas.  Aaron was a lot of fun to work with. He’s high energy and quite a jokester.  Aaron brought his uncle along to the shoot so it was fun to witness the banter between family.  We shared some good laughs and his food was delicious!

Good Company Magazine

It is so exciting to watch a new venture unfold and take flight.  I was fortunate to be a part of this new magazine, Good Company, created by my friends, Bobbi Lin and Debi Kogan.  I think their manifesto describes what the magazine is all about best, “When PEOPLE come first, memorable meals happen.  The right TOOLS turn a chore into an art. Recipes with seasonal INGREDIENTS that work.”  You can peruse the Issue One Winter online or order a hard copy on their website, www.goodcompanymagazine.com.

Book Cover – Chosen At Nightfall

I’m excited to say that a photo of mine (or a portion rather), with one of my favorite muses, Cierah, is gracing the cover of  Chosen At Nightfall.  How appropriate for the first signs of Autumn.  This book is the fifth and final installment of the popular Shadows Falls series by writer C.C. Hunter.  It will be on bookshelves April 2013!

Here is the cover outtake as well as some of my favorites from my shoot with Cierah:

The “Farmily” at Allenbrooke Farms

I am  fortunate to have a job in which I get to meet a variety of unique people doing interesting things on a daily basis.  Most recently had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with Stephanie and Daniel Allen at their 120 acre Allenbrooke Farms.  Spring was in full tilt and there was a ton beautiful produce being harvested, not to mention the newborn chicks and kittens running around.

The “farmily”, as Stephanie has coined their farm home includes; Stephanie and Daniel, their potbelly pig, Maybelline + her parents, a couple cats, 2 new litters of kittens, 4 dogs, 3 or 4 types of chickens, a rooster and a hen with her new baby chicks. Stephanie and Daniel put a ton of hard work and love into their farm.  (Speaking of love, did I mention that they were high school sweethearts?) The Allens grow a variety of certified naturally grown vegetables, fruits and herbs; they have chickens that lay eggs as well as a breed  that are raised solely for cooking. It was impressive to learn that they also make their own kombucha and kefir water.  I got to try a glass of their pineapple kefir water. It was refreshingly effervescent and delicious. So good in fact that I think I must learn how to make it!

If you live in the Nashville area, Stephanie and Daniel offer a CSA (sign up for next year!). Their produce is certified naturally grown which is the grassroots alternative to “organic” for small farms. They sell at the Franklin farmer’s market during the summer months so get yourself there soon!  Please visit their website to learn more about Stephanie and Daniel + the farm.

Happy Valentine’s Day

YES, it’s Valentine’s Day and it’s time to dig into another heart shaped box of chocolates!  I know some of you may dislike this day but what’s to dislike?…  You get to tell everyone you like that you really, really like/love them.  In my mind any holiday that promotes eating chocolate, giving/receiving flowers and a little lovin’ isn’t so bad. Today I’d like to let ALL my family & friends know how truly grateful I am to have YOU in my life.  xoxo Susan

A big shout out and hug to Swiss Cottage Designs for designing another awesome promo for me this year.  Thanks Courtney aka “lil nugget”.

Tre Donne

Sometimes an opportunity arises, the stars are aligned, the situation feels right and you seize the moment.  This happened to me when I decided to go on an Italian adventure with two other women back in October.   My two road mates were Jennifer and Fabiola; two wonderful ladies and now, two great friends.  Our road trip couldn’t have been more fun, unless we had had the time to go sailing on Sweet Emotion to Croatia! Maybe this year!?!..  The purpose of our trip was to visit 4 vineyards in Northern Italy and 1 in Slovenia in 5 days.  We began and ended our trip at Podere Ciona, an amazing estate and winery in Tuscany.  The proprietors are three of the loveliest Italians you will ever meet; Franco, Franca and Lorenzo Gatteschi.

Our journey was quick but we accomplished our mission with MUCH laughter, little sleep, DELICIOUS wine and AMAZING food. You can see the full Italian road trip story on my website.  The other 3 vineyards we visited were, Giuseppe Lonardi in Marano di Valpolicella,  Edi Simčič in Goriška Brda, Slovenia, Monte Tondo in Soave and de Tarczal in Trentino.
